The Most Dangerous Neighborhoods in the Dallas Metro Area?

In the Dallas-Fort Worth metro region, the rate of property crimes, which include robbery, are reported as slightly higher than the national average, but the violent crime rate, which includes assault, is lower than the national average. Looking at Metro Area Crime Rates

When looking at the crime rate for 2016, the Dallas-Fort Worth metro area violent crime rate was 359 per 100,000 people. That is significantly lower than the Houston metro area, which was 577 per 100,000 and Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, which was 445 out of 100,000. The property crime rate in Dallas-Fort Worth was 2,471 out of 100,000, which was higher than Chicago’s rate of 2,056 for every 100,000 people and Philadelphia’s rate of 2,166 for every 100,000 people, but lower than Houston’s 2,918 out of every 100,000 people.

Looking at Long-Term Crime Statistics

When Dallas area crime statistics were looked at over several years–from 2000 to 2018–it showed the property crime rate gradually climbed before it dropped significantly, then it increased again in 2005 before it started gradually declining again. The property crime rates in the area were the highest in 2002, when they were 5,196 per 100,000 people. Violent crime was at its highest in the Dallas area in 2001 when it was 6,987 per 100,000, but it had dropped to 144 per 100,000 by 2003. The figures had climbed to 550 per 100,000 by 2005 before it went back on a steady decline, to 359 per 100,000 in 2016.

The Safest Neighborhoods

There are many different neighborhoods in the Dallas metro region and some of those neighborhoods are statistically much safer than others due to lower crime rates. Frisco, north of El Dorado, has the lowest crime rates in the area and is followed by Double Oak, which has a population of 2,900 people protected by a six-member police department, and West McKinney, which is another small community. Rounding out the rest of the safest neighborhoods are Frisco (east of Preston), followed by North Dallas, Eastern Colleyville, Bent Tree, Oakdale, Country Brook, Frisco (west of Stonebriar Mall), Timber Creek, and North Richland Hills.

Looking at The Violent Crime Rate

The murder rate in Dallas is 12.5 per 100,000 people, which causes Dallas to rank 25th out of the deadliest cities in the country. When violent crimes are looked at more closely, there are 58 rapes per 100,000 people in Dallas compared to 48 per 100,000 in the state or 40 per 100,000 nationwide. The robbery rate in Dallas is 348 while the assault rate is 342. The violent crime rate in Dallas is 762 per 100,000 compared to 386 per 100,000 nationally.
